International Ambassador

International Ambassadors assist staff and managers with their daily duties, as well as work on special projects or coordinate events that help enhance our hostel community. Their main objective is to get to know our guests and make sure everyone is enjoying their time at our hostel! Lodging is provided in either our Downtown or Midtown hostels. We regularly have needs for ambassadors with artist/carpentry skills.

DETAILS

  • Must be able to work 28 hours per week.. Lodging provided at either of our hostels.
  • Consistency is preferred (will not accommodate constantly-changing availability).
  • Applicant must have an international passport. Domestic applicants cannot be considered.
  • We are looking for individuals who are comfortable committing to at least 2 months of service.

    FRONT DESK ASSOCIATE    

FRONT DESK ASSOCIATE

We are seeking additional front desk guest services associations to join our team! You are the primary ambassador between our guests and Nashville, providing friendly check-ins, personal recommendations for how to make the most of Music City, and helping maintain quality facilities that keep our guests happy. An ideal applicant has a love for global travelers and a positive spirit that will make our guests feel at home.

Successful guest service associates exude a warm and hospitable attitude that will put weary travelers at ease. You are comfortable and calm when our lobby is full of guests and you find joy in balancing guest engagement with mundane tasks like folding laundry, answering the phone, and keeping our community spaces clean and organized.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

  • Greeting everyone with a smile, making sure they feel at home as soon as they walk through the door or call us on the phone.
  • Providing guests with quick and friendly check-in and check-out experiences.
  • Provide expertise in the local area, events, and great places to grab food, coffee, or drinks.
  • Properly navigating our booking and payment systems to ensure guest information is accurately recorded and proper cash or credit card payments are collected.
  • Maintaining a clean and organized reception area, community kitchen, lobby, and laundry facility.
  • Professionally handling challenging personalities, intoxicated individuals, or people who do not meet the security requirements to stay in our facility.
  • Navigating communication barriers when speaking to guests with foreign accents or a minimal understanding of English.

  

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to work independently, self-manage responsibilities, and complete routine tasks.
  • Ability to differentiate a fun atmosphere from destructive party behaviors with the capacity to professionally address problematic behavior before it gets out of hand.
  • Professional verbal and written communication skills is a necessity.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and also give attention to detail.
  • Must have the ability and motivation to learn property management software.
  • Prior experience with spreadsheets and property management software is a plus.
  • Experience in college dormitory, summer camp, hotel, or hostel operations is a plus.
  • Must be willing to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as schedule requires.
  • Domestic and/or International travel and hostel-stay or vacation rental experience is a plus.

    OPERATIONS MANAGER    

OPERATIONS MANAGER

We are seeking an additional operations manager to join our team! OMs train, supervise, and evaluate a team of 10-15 in the areas of guest services, housekeeping, and maintenance. You manage the day-to-day activity of our hostel and vacation rental business, as well as take a leading role in creating systems to improve our operation and foster a unique travel experience for our guests. An ideal applicant not only has a love for global travelers and the hosteling industry, but is energized by a blend of administrative work and guest/staff engagement.

Successful OMs are organized, calm under pressure, independent, assertive, and able to make and communicate decisions in the best interest of our businesses. 

ADMIN RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

  • Taking individual and group reservations by telephone, e-mail, and an online system in an accurate and efficient manner.
  • Ensuring accurate notations and billings of all guest accounts, staff cash registers, bank deposits, and payroll reports.
  • Overseeing the yield management process by monitoring room inventory, optimizing occupancy, and maximizing room revenue.
  • Overseeing a consistently high level of cleanliness for sleeping quarters, bathrooms, reception area, and common areas by our housekeeping staff.
  • Applying analytical problem-solving skills for assessing maintenance, HR, marketing, and project-management issues.
  • Understand staffing and scheduling needs and properly coordinating hiring, onboarding, scheduling, and training staff to ensure a consistent level of quality service.

  

ENGAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

  • Facilitating a fun and welcoming atmosphere that guarantees a quality Nashville experience.
  • Welcoming and orienting guests and business partners with information about our facility, location, and business goals.
  • Ensuring the timely and thorough completion of all staff and supervisor tasks, and providing routine training and evaluation on employee performance.
  • Maintaining consistent staff briefings, weekly manager meetings, and monthly staff/supervisor meetings to ensure a consistent and effective flow of information within the hostel.
  • Being the voice for the operation of our downtown location to other managers and owners.
  • Supporting staff in maintaining security and establishing and enforcing hostel policies.
  • Managing social media presence and other online review sites.

  

ENGAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or related hospitality management experience and/or training.
  • Your verbal and written communication skills are excellent. Formulating professional responses to online reviews, unusual email requests, or problems is an exciting challenge.
  • Ability to foster a positive work atmosphere and manage varying levels of maturity and professionalism from staff and supervisors.
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks and work independently to manage your workload.
  • Proven conflict resolution skills and ability to control difficult situations and personalities requiring management or law enforcement intervention.
  • Domestic and/or International travel and hostel-stay or vacation rental experience is a must.

Once hired, managers will be trained on staff and supervisor-level responsibilities. The bulk of management training will happen as situations arise on the job with support from other managers. You should be comfortable getting your feet wet and learning on the fly as situations arise.

    FACILITIES MANAGER    

FACILITIES & MAINTENANCE MANAGER

The Facilities & Maintenance Manager is responsible for the overall maintenance and appearance of the hostel. He/She acts in a proactive manner and will institute preventative measures to ensure long-term functionality of hostel systems. This person will also maintain and control the physical condition of our multiple properties as issues arise. You oversee the work of facility contractors and will work together with the management team to plan and complete tasks and projects under fiscal and time restraints. 

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

  • Track and resolve all maintenance issues to ensure building systems are maintained and operating at maximum efficiency.
  • Maintain building in good working condition as to maximize asset value.
  • Provide leadership and insight within the management team.
  • Project Management of renovation projects, including contract negotiations and bid management; serve as point of contact for all maintenance vendors; coordinate inspections; and work with management to plan and complete capital projects under fiscal and time restraints.
  • Maintain a clean, accessible workspace.Maintain appropriate inventory.
  • Ensure the facility meets all local and organizational required standards.
  • Create and maintain maintenance and capital timelines.
  • Manage the building preventative maintenance system including assigning work orders and following up to ensure that all work orders are professionally completed and recorded correctly.
  • Respond to tenant service requests in a timely manner and maintain good client relations.
  • Oversee a key control process; assigning and making analog and electronic keys for the hostel as needed.
  • Maintain an ongoing list of projects, and to plan a daily/weekly/monthly work cycle of those projects to insure completion in a timely fashion.
  • Any special projects or duties as assigned.

  

ENGAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

  • Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of maintenance experience, or equivalent experience.
  • Familiarity with relevant state regulations.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with renovation and/or property management.Experience with DormaKaba, Ilco, Atlas, Kaba, or similar hotel lock systems is a plus
  • Experience with plumbing systems, basic electrical, carpentry, drywall, HVAC, and tile.
  • Familiarity with the Google Office Suite.
  • The ability to speak multiple languages is a plus. English is required.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos in English. Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
